Classes will be held on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from November 11th through January 31st. If you sign up before the end of October, you'll automatically receive the early bird discount pricing of $100 at checkout.

In this 3-hour class, you will learn how to forge your own blacksmith's leaf. This intermediate project will be guided by Tyler, who will walk you through every step of the process. The blacksmith's leaf pattern emerged about 600 years ago as a journeyman's portable resume, showcasing their skill level during travels. Tyler's style of leaf incorporates 5 of the 7 fundamental blacksmithing principles, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the craft. 

The class begins with practicing these concepts using modeling clay, which simulates hot metal without the risk of ruining your final project. After this preparation, you'll work directly with the forge while Tyler provides guidance to ensure you successfully complete a blacksmith's leaf to take home.

Workshop Activities

As a participant in an Iron Autumn Forge blacksmith workshop, I understand that I will:

  • Be working with metals heated to temperatures up to and exceeding 2,000°F
  • Use blacksmithing tools including hammers, tongs, anvils, and other hand tools
  • Be in proximity to operational coal/propane forges
  • Engage in physical activities requiring strength, coordination, and attention

Risk Acknowledgment

I acknowledge and accept that participation involves inherent risks, including but not limited to:

  • Potential burns from contact with hot metal, forges, or equipment
  • Possible injuries from tools, materials, or physical exertion
  • Potential eye injuries from flying scale, sparks, or debris
  • Exposure to smoke, dust, fumes, and airborne particles

Safety Commitment

I commit to maintaining my safety and the safety of others by:

  • Wearing all required safety equipment at all times (safety glasses, leather apron, closed-toe shoes, etc.)
  • Following all instructions provided by the instructor
  • Using equipment and tools only as demonstrated and permitted
  • Immediately reporting any safety concerns or injuries to staff

Liability Release

I voluntarily release Iron Autumn Forge, its instructors, employees, and affiliated parties from any liability for injuries, damages, or losses that may occur during my participation in this workshop.
